Diploma Plus Programme (DPP)

NYP has been preparing students for university studies and enhancing students' technical capabilities through Optional Elective Modules. With effect from AY2010 S2, NYP has offered these modules under the Diploma Plus Programme (DPP).

If you are able to cope with your Diploma Course, and at the same time pursue an additional qualification, you are eligible to apply for these additional and optional Diploma Plus Modules (DPP Modules). A Graduate Diploma Plus Transcript will be awarded to you if you have passed any number of DPP Modules and completed the main diploma programme. You can find more information in the sections below.

Note:
Your performance in these DPP Modules will not be included in the GPA computation of your Diploma Course and the credits earned will not be counted towards credits for graduation. The grades will be reflected in the transcript and e-Statement of results only if you pass the DPP Modules.

Detailed Timetable for AY2012 S1

Programme 3 (CORE3) and Programme 4 (CORE4)

Exemption from one Mathematics Module in NUS/NTU through Mathematics DP Module Series

EGAM00 Calculus (30 hrs)

  • Synopsis
    This module equips students with the necessary mathematical skills and knowledge that will adequately prepare them to take calculus related modules. Emphasis will be on the depth of understanding on the topics covered in order to attain a strong foundation. Major topics: Differentiation, integration and simple first-order differential equations.

EGAM01 Analytical Geometry (30 hrs)

  • Synopsis
    This module equips students with the necessary mathematical skills and knowledge that will adequately prepare them for further studies in mathematics-related disciplines and courses. Emphasis will be on the depth of understanding on the topics covered in order to attain a strong foundation. Major topics: Functions and graphs, inequalities, conic sections, plane curves, polar coordinates, vectors, sequences and series.

EGAM02 Applied Calculus (30 hrs)

  • Synopsis
    This module equips students with the necessary mathematical skills and knowledge that will adequately prepare them for further studies in mathematics-related disciplines and courses. Emphasis will be on the depth of understanding on the topics covered in order to attain a strong foundation. Major topics: Limits of functions, derivatives and its applications, integration techniques and related applications.

EGAM03 Advanced Calculus (60 hrs)

  • Synopsis
    This module equips students with the necessary mathematical skills and knowledge that will adequately prepare them for further studies in mathematics-related disciplines and courses. Emphasis will be on the depth of understanding on the topics covered in order to attain a strong foundation. Major topics: Functions of several variables, partial derivatives, multiple integrals, infinites sequences and series, test of convergence for series.

EGAE01 Advanced Circuit Techniques (60 hrs)

  • Synopsis
    This module covers advanced electronic design techniques for analogue and digital circuits and further hones student test and measurement, fault analysis and problem-solving skills. Students will be able to integrate and apply advanced know-how and skills to design and implement a wide range of analogue and digital circuits.

CISCO-Certification DP Module Series

EGAN03 Network Services (30 hrs)

  • Synopsis
    This module teaches students to install and operate an enterprise branch network. The module presents networking fundamentals using the TCP/IP and OSI seven-layer model concepts. Structured cabling systems, networking fundamentals and PC network troubleshooting will be covered. The module includes online assessments that allow students to measure their progress throughout the learning experience.

EGAN04 Network Design & Deployment (30 hrs)

  • Synopsis
    This module teaches students to design and deploy an enterprise branch network. IP addressing scheme assignment, basic router configuration, routing fundamentals, and networks configuration will be taught. Online assessments and hands-on practical sessions are used to enhance students’ learning experience.

EGAN05 Advanced Network Implementations (30 hrs)

  • Synopsis
    This module aims to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to implement a switched enterprise network. The module covers network switch concepts, planning and configuring VLANs, spanning tree protocols, IPv6, Quality-of-Service (QoS) requirements and wireless LAN. Hands-on sessions on the implementation of WAN, LAN with QoS design are included.

EGAN06 Advanced Network Management (30 hrs)

  • Synopsis
    This module aims to equip students with the skills necessary to fulfill the job responsibilities of network engineers. It covers managing, securing and troubleshooting enterprise networks. Topics covered include static and dynamic routing protocols, Wide Area Network (WAN), broadband technologies, network troubleshooting and security. Hands-on sessions on management and implementation are provided. With case studies and lab test cases, the module prepares students for the final Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification exam.

EGAP01 PHP Application Development (60 hrs)

  • Synopsis
    This module provides students with a solid foundation in the PHP language including building PHP front-end applications as well as developing dynamic database-driven back-end applications. The module also provides in-depth knowledge on server communications, sessions, cookies as well as best practices and program debugging techniques. Students will be guided through an experiential learning approach using examples and hands-on exercises to master the syntax and language constructs of PHP and various coding techniques. At the end of the module, students are expected to code and deliver a fully functional PHP web application.

EGAP02 Advanced PHP Web Development (60 hrs)

  • Synopsis
    This module provides advanced topics in language constructs and modular programming, PHP configuration, database applications, file uploads, EMAIL, friendly URLs, application security, HTTP headers and validation in building PHP applications. It utilizes a hands-on approach with numerous examples and practical exercises to enhance learning, with the use of various industry standards IDEs for coding and debugging applications. At the end of the module, students are expected to code and deliver a complete dynamic database driven PHP application that is integrated with front-end web applications and design.

EGAT01 Optical Network Systems Design (30 hrs)

  • Synopsis
    This module covers the concepts and techniques required to design, implement and test optical network systems for voice, video and data applications. It discusses the design and performance issues of optical network systems in both telecommunications and enterprise networks, and presents the different standards for communications links in optical networks. Upon completion of this module, students are able to set up, analyse and test optical links to meet the requirements of telecommunications and enterprise networks.

EGAT02 Optical Network Project (60 hrs)

  • Synopsis
    This module trains the students in the development of an integrated optical and copper based network infrastructure that complies with the industry standards and best practices. Students will learn and apply the different phases of the project life cycle including planning, design, implementation, testing and acceptance through an integrated optical infrastructure project. Upon completion of this module, students are able to implement as well as conduct and supervise EIA/TIA and ISO standards conformance tests which are mandatory for all large scale integrated optical infrastructure projects.
